Your Submission is Welcome
What We’re Looking For
We invite you to contribute a personal essay, reflection, creative work, or any form of expression that pays homage to Charles’ unique impact on the field, or upon you personally. We welcome your insights, anecdotes, and/or artistic responses.
We are asking you to donate your piece. (It will not be sold in any form, see below for details.) Think of doing so as joining a party in words, a celebration of a distinguished colleague, and a chance to engage with the community around a shared appreciation for Charles De Lint and his work.
What We’ll Do with Your Work
We are still trying to gauge interest, so the parameters of this Festschrift project aren’t set in stone. Should you choose to participate, we will keep you updated throughout. At minimum we would like to include your submission on this site. The final Festschrift may take several forms. If there is enough participation / interest, we would like to produce a chapbook collection that would be available as a free e-book or as a print-on-demand version at cost.
Regardless, you retain the copyright to your piece. We simply request permission for use in this Festschrift. In fact, we would enthusiastically encourage you to post your piece on your own social media, or to share with your community in any way you’d like.
We will not collect any money through this project.
Submission Guidelines
Word Count: Anything from a paragraph up to approximately 3000 words, but we’re flexible. We’re open to all forms of artistic expression, so if you’re thinking more along the lines of a sketch, a comic, a song etc. we can work together on appropriate guidelines.
Format: Electronic submission via form.
We would also ask that you include a brief author bio and photo for inclusion in the final project.
Why Are Julie and Jane Reaching out?
As many of you know, Charles’ wife and creative partner MaryAnn Harris was in hospital from September 2021 to her tragic death in June 2024 from Powassan Virus. Before she passed MaryAnn asked that we help create some kind of celebration so that this 40th anniversary of her beloved Charles did not pass without comment.
